Wireless coverage

Businesses are increasingly turning to wireless networking as it offers an affordable and flexible way to manage their changing needs. Installing a Wireless Access Point (WAP) with quality backbone cabling is one of the most cost-effective and reliable ways to ensure full coverage in your business. We can tailor a solution to your needs that will allow complete Wi-Fi coverage for you and your customers.

Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS

Unexpected power interruptions to your business can occur for many reasons and often without warning. You can reduce your risks during an outage by having a back up power supply available and ensuring your maintenance programs are up to date.

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides emergency power from a battery source. A UPS usually has a runtime from a few minutes to a few hours, but this is sufficient time for you to properly shut down your protected equipment. A UPS is typically used to protect computers, data centres, telecommunication equipment or other electrical equipment where an unexpected power disruption which could cause injuries, fatalities, serious business disruption or data loss.

The most important aspect to consider when installing your UPS is the VA rating. On smaller UPS the Watt rating of the battery is around 60% of the VA rating. Neither the VA rating nor the Watt rating may be exceeded. This means that a 1000VA UPS will generally power up to a 600 Watt computer and no more.

If you have any doubt as to your correct UPS VA requirements please contact us and we will walk you through the process.

There are three types of UPS

Line interactive

These systems tend to be the better option, but often cost more. In addition to battery backup, they also regulate power and smooth out the power supply in the event of minor power fluctuations offering a level of surge protection.

Standby or off-line

These remain in standby mode until the power supply fails, then the battery takes over. These UPS systems will allow you the protection of power backup, but do not provide any line conditioning. These are a more common option as they cost less.

Online or double-conversion

These systems not only provide power backup, but convert power from AC to DC and then back to AC before regulating the output back to your equipment. This isolates your equipment from raw mains power and acts a little like a water purifier and conditions the supply, offering you superior protection. Although offering the best protection, double conversion systems tend to be the most expensive.

UPS installation

When deciding on a UPS backup the main consideration should be how much machinery or how many electronic devices you wish to run when the power goes down, and for how long. Depending on your circumstances it may simply be enough to backup several computers and shut your system down. For others it may mean running life sustaining equipment indefinitely.

Please note: Your Uninterruptible Power Supply generally only needs to be capable enough to allow you to back up your information and shut your system down safely. However, in some cases you may wish to continue working through the power interruption and this will require more backup power and therefore a larger system.

Surge and overvoltage protection

To ensure your home or business is thoroughly protected, we  will inspect all your electronic appliances within your property and discuss with you which ones need protecting. Once we've made an individual assessment of your needs, we'll professionally install a surge protection solution that will help provide you the best protection for your essential electrical equipment such as security systems, medical equipment, TVs, computers and other electronics.

MDF Jumpering

When connecting a new phone line or ADSL service to a townhouse, apartment, flat or unit service providers are obligated to connect the new phone line or ADSL service to the MDF (Main Distribution Frame) located at the unit complex. Some units have individual lead-in cables direct to the residence and any new service should work at the phone socket or ADSL point upon activation. If a MDF is on site, the new phone line or ADSL service will be connected by phone carrier or IP provider to the MDF, your new phone line or ADSL service will not work until the cable pair is jumpered from the "A" side of the MDF to the "B" side of the MDF which has the phone cable that runs from the MDF back to your unit, flat or apartment.

When you are advised of the activation of your phone line or ADSL service, ask your provider for the cable pair details, this is usually something like "Vertical A, Pair 06". To save money it is also advisable to ask about the location of the MDF at the unit complex so you can advise our technician of cable pair details, new phone number and MDF location. Jumpering (or connecting) the cable to your existing line leading back to your residence should not take long. We will then need to test the socket for dialtone and or ADSL sync in your home before finishing up.
